Some of my listings are not tagged.

eBay will not allow us to tag listings:

  • When the listing ends in 12 hours,
  • When the listing has bids or Best Chance Offers pending,
  • When your eBay account credit card is invalid,
  • When your eBay Token expired (not applicable to Open Apps.

I am not seeing any visitor traffic! (And I never have.)

If you just joined, it will take up to 2 hours for you to start seeing visitors. If you have been a member for more than a few hours, and still do not see data, we are happy to investigate for you - contact us at contact customer service.

Also, you may have turned off auto-tag.

I am not seeing any visitor traffic! (But I used to.)

  1. If you changed your eBay userid, you will no longer be able to access your new account under My eBay. Since eBay imposes a flag on the account and returns results to us, and obviously that does not work well with an analytics service. (See next question). You may still access the old account via our website, however, you will need to make a new, fresh account for the new ID.
  2. You may have restored an old account, and in that case, we need to map the old account to the new one.
  3. If you do not use Open Apps directory, your token is probably expired; log into the main website, and visit "eBay Token" in Preferences.

If you need assistance with the above please contact customer service.

I changed my eBay UserID and it doesn't track now.

eBay imposes security limitations on the account if you change the ID. We must track listings under the userid they were created under. We are tracking your listings correctly, but the data is sent to the old account. Your new traffic and old traffic will be split between the two accounts.

Since eBay imposes security limitations on the account, we can no longer track an account when the ID is changed. A new account must be established. Your new traffic and old traffic will be split between the two accounts, however. We apologize but there are no exceptions to this rule due to eBay security rules. This is not a reflection on our service. We are correctly tracking each ID, we are not allowed to track them together.

To get around this issue, you must inform us PRIOR TO changing the eBay ID so we can arrange to map the accounts. Or, new users with new accounts and a few listings can just cancel listings.

We apologize, but eBay does inform customers of the drawbacks of changing an ID at the time of changing the ID, but our app needs more security than others.

My second account does not track.

As advertised, we can only give one free account per customer. If you wish to add new accounts, you can add them as a free trial, and we use the honor system for payment. You can purchase an upgrade here.

I am seeing traffic on eBay.com, but not xxx.eBay.xxx.

If you are tracking a subdomain or website that is different than cgi.ebay.com, you must explicitly specify in preferences. This is to protect your statistics from being hacked. We have most of them.

As of this writing, we have: www.ebay.com, stores.ebay.com, shop.ebay.com, stores.ebay.com, shop.ebay.de, stores.ebay.de, shop.ebay.co.uk, stores.ebay.co.uk, shop.ebay.it, ebay.ca, stores.ebay.it, ebay.ca, vi.ebaydesc.it,cgi.ebaydesc.it

If you see one that is not on this list, please write us a note.

New User Questions

Do you track ALL my listings, including auctions, BIN, FP, and Store?
Yes. After you join, within hours we will begin to track your current listings (all types). We also track visits to the store itself. Basically, if you see our tiny counter, that means it's being tracked.

Will my search rankings be affected with Best Match, Google, etc.?
No. We are not doing anything fancy, just putting a tracking counter on your listings at the bottom. Our service isn't tied to those other services in any way. Only Google can affect Google, and only eBay can affect Best Match, etc. If anything, sales will go up since you are monitoring actions your buyers take and making adjustments.

How exactly can analytics help my sales?

This is up to your own intuition and observation skills, but here are just a few ideas among hundreds.

  1. "I see that my dresses get a lot of visits from Japan. I should sell overseas."
  2. "My pink templates sell 20% more product."
  3. "My products sell best on Sunday nights."
  4. "I see most buyers leave out the apostrophe on "Wrigley's". I should add "Wrigleys" to my listing titles."
  5. "A lot of my buyers set their browser to Spanish as the default."
  6. "I used custom goals to perform A/B testing, and method B attracted more buyers.
  7. "Hello Robert, thanks for your purchase. I noticed you spent a lot of time looking at my other three items. Are you interested in a discounted price for all items?"

Do you delete my data?
We keep summary information forever. The details, such as IP address, are kept for 180 days.

I have several eBay accounts. Will Sellebrity merge them?
Yes. It doesn't matter which eBay Account you are logged in to; your Dashboard will always show all your accounts. As you sign up for additional accounts, your dashboard summarizes them all on one page.

How many hits should I expect per hour?

How many hits you receive depends on what you sell, And how interesting you make it. A typical seller can expect to receive one per minute per 1,000 listings active.

However, this is by no means a rule of thumb. We have one customer that sells lingerie who receives one hit per minute for every 2000 listings. We have another customer that sells DVDs who receives one hit every half hour for 17,000 listings.

This is why you are signing up with Sellebrity Analytics: To improve your sales, by monitoring such things.

Is it true you support 15 languages?
Yes. We support 15 languages, you can configure them in your Preferences.

Why don't you tag an invisible counter?

We could add an invisible counter, but in order to keep buyers informed of all changes, eBay appends a message:

At (date and time), the seller added the following information:

Sellers didn't want eBay's message there with empty hanging space. So, we made the tag a modest 88x33 image.

Existing Users

How can I find the best times to sell?

Check our blog article on Best Days and Times to List and other tutorials.

How can I look up all the activity for one buyer?

Easy. Just go to Visitors tab. Set a filter and choose IP ADDRESS. Enter the IP address. You should also change the date range to 30 days or 90 days.

What is "Bounce Rate?"

The traditional definition of a "bounce" is a visitor who only views one listing (or page on your site) and then leaves. However, we do not feel this is a good way to define this metric, as there are plenty of sites whose goal is one page view - e.g. a blog post linked to from Facebook. Sellebrity instead relies on the visitor's time-on-site - if a visitor is on your site for at least 30 seconds (which our tracking code tells us) then we will say they are NOT a bounce, even if they only have one page view. However, we do honor the definition that any visitor who has more than one page view is not a bounce.

If I know the name of a buyer, can I assign their name to their IP addresss?

Yes. If you do so, they will show up in SPY (and the rest of the site) as their real name, e.g. John Doe.

If I tag auctions myself, will you tag them, also?

No. We always check the auction description first to make sure it doesn’t have our code first, invisible or otherwise.

What happens if I use your image-only code instead of your JavaScript?

Nothing, really. Except you will not be able to track searches or languages. Our service is reliant on the JavaScript for only those two things. Otherwise, the image can be used and you will see identical results to what you would have seen using the JavaScript.

I can't see keywords and search phrases.

Recently, eBay started presenting their webpages with iframes, and therefore the referring page for the eBay item page is the actual eBay item page wrapper itself. Bottom line is, eBay cut all of the services off from learning referrer information for webpages that originate within eBay internally. In short, only eBay can know the true referrer now.

There is still very valid and helpful information when you view over 30 or 90 days. And of course we track websites, too.

I know someone visited my site but they never showed up in my stats!
Make sure that particular listing or web page has our 88x33 custom counter, or our javascript code. If not, see above. If so, here are some commons reasons why a visitor may not show up in your visitor log:
  • They are using a tracking blocker or other "privacy" software
  • Their firewall blocked our tracking servers
  • They have a slow connection and didn't have time to download and execute our tracking code before moving on
  • They have disabled Javascript
  • They have images turned off
  • Their browser is not sending a proper referrer
  • They are in your IP block list
  • They are handicapped (using a text reader)
  • They are using 'incognito mode' in Google Chrome browser
Why are the dates and times incorrect on my hit counts?

You just need to configure your time zone in Preferences. You can change your timezone for each of your sites individually, in the preferences area for that ID or site.

Traffic in Spy is not showing up in the rest of my reports!
Spy is truly "live" data, while the rest of the service it typically 1-5 minutes behind real time. This means you'll see data in Spy before you see it show up anywhere else.

How do I block my own visits to my web site from being tracked?
Go to your site preferences, then go to the "IP tags and filters" section. On this page, you can enter individual IP addresses to block from being tracked, including your own or someone else's. Note: This feature does not block ths person from visiting your site. It only tells us to ignore their visits in your stats.. You can also set a cookie on the same page to always ignore your own visits, no matter what your IP address is.

Sellebrity is reporting different numbers than another service I also use.
Every service works differently, so you will never see the same numbers in any two services. In particular, "log analyzers" such as AWStats - these services log ALL traffic to your site, even from search engines and other bots. Sellebrity and most other hosted services only monitor human activity on your web site.
